ATR – About Us
ATR (Amatörteaterns Riksförbund) is a national association whose mission is to organizationally support the Swedish amateur theatre sector. The association has approximately 250 non-professional theatre group members.
ATR was founded in 1977, its publishing house being established in the same year.
ATR has agreements with the playwright organization Writers Guild of Sweden and the Nordic Theatre Publishers’ Association, and it is the theatrical rights intermediary for all Swedish school and amateur theatre groups. ATR helps with the drawing up and handling of contracts, to ensure authors and translators receive remuneration according to agreement.
ATR’s script library is the largest of its kind in Sweden, with about 6,300 titles available for loan, the scripts have been supplied by companies and playwrights. We only send scripts within Sweden and to FSU in Finland and we are not allowed to sell the scripts.
ATR’s publishing house gives advice on plays and makes performing rights available to Swedish amateur theatre societies and schools.
ATR also sells theatrical makeup from Grimas at low prices as well as Swedish theatre literature, available for order with fast delivery.
ATR’s headquarters is situated in Västerås. Its six-strong team works with membership administration, the script library, performing rights, education, theatrical makeup, activities for children and young people, and international exchange.
ATR cooperates internationally with several companies, including the Copenhagen-based performing rights agency Nordiska ApS and Music Theatre International: Europe, based in London.
